The Station Building will be constructed on 49.92 acres of land, with a total floor area of approximately 1,50,107 sq.m. It will be designed to accommodate 20,000 PHT and will have an Operational Area of approximately 84,059 sq.m and an Airspace Area of approximately 66,048 sq.m.
In 2020-21, Vijayawada Railway Station handled approximately 16,400 daily reserved passenger boardings, reflecting a 7% CAGR growth from 12,500 in 2017-18. Conversely, unreserved passenger boardings declined at a 2% CAGR, from 44,300 in 2017-18 to 40,600 in 2020-21. This decline in unreserved traffic is attributed to changing travel behaviours, with rising incomes leading to greater ownership of personal vehicles and increased use of cabs and taxis, reducing reliance on suburban train commutes. Peak hour traffic (PHT) accounts for approximately 8% of daily passenger traffic.
